MISSISSIPPI AVENUE - Just a reminder that starting today and for the rest of the week a subcontractor for the high speed rail will be excavating test-holes on Mississippi Right-of-way within Union Pacific Railroad crossing.
Traffic at times will be limited to one lane only. Flaggers will be present to allow traffic on both directions to flow. At no time Mississippi Ave. will be completely closed to traffic.
WALTER STRAWN - Walter Strawn reconstruction has been completed (with the exception of landscaping restoration) which will be completed in the fall. The road is now open to traffic from Elwood International Port Road to Deer Run Road. As a reminder, truck traffic is not allowed to use Deer Run and they will have to use Walton Drive.

Elwood to celebrate National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Tyler Park

6 p.m.-8 p.m.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer, better place to live. The annual event enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement and fosters a true sense of community.

Elwood is a community where neighbors know each other, and families feel comfortable approaching their local police and fire officials. The National Night Out event is a way to continue and preserve those relationships.

The Elwood event will feature Touch a Truck photos with police, fire and military vehicles, face painting, a free cookout, crime prevention tips, games, prizes, activities and more.

Tyler Park, formerly known as Little Park, is located at the corner of Mississippi Avenue and Wood Street in Elwood. Residents are encouraged to walk and ride bicycles to the park.

The Elwood Police Department encourages all residents to keep their porch lights on during the evening hours of August 4th. The Porch Light Vigil will show support for the continued police and community partnership.

Kimley-Horn prepared capacity analyses at key intersections in the Elwood and Joliet area and conducted queue observations at the IL 53/Laraway Road intersection. This section of the report details

Reconstruction of Walter Strawn Drive

Please be advised starting Thursday May 28th reconstruction of Walter Strawn Drive will begin and traffic will be closed from Elwood International Port Rd. going East.

Only local traffic delivering and picking up from Building 8 (Cypress Medical – Logistics Team – and – SCL Logistics) will be allowed to use a small portion of Walter Strawn Drive - ONLY FROM WALTON DRIVE TO THE ENTRANCE-EXIT OF BUILDING 8.

Construction will be completed by the end of June.

We strongly encourage businesses within Walton Drive to head North and turn left at Mississippi Avenue to reach the BNSF yard or the interstate system.

Detour signs will be installed on Wednesday May 27th.

We appreciate your patience during construction days.
